What is Oil Pulling? Oil Pulling has a long Ayurvedic folk medicine tradition. The daily practice of oil pulling opens up the pores and stimulates enzyme activity inside your mouth. The method is said to improve digestion, rid undesirable substances from within, strengthen oral hygiene, whiten teeth, help the respiratory and immune systems. The practice requires dedication, but takes little time and the benefits far outweigh the effort.
Take one tablespoon of the oil in the mouth on an empty stomach. Best if done in the morning but can also be done three times a day before a meal – as long as the stomach is empty.
Set a timer for 10-15 minutes and start to swish or chew the oil around your mouth gently. If your mouth gets tired, ease the force – you are probably swishing too vigorously.
Once time elapses, spit the oil out and rinse your mouth thoroughly with plain or salted warm water. You can brush your teeth and tongue using a dedicated toothbrush and a natural, fluoride-free toothpaste. The oil in the process will turn white and viscous. This is normal andexpected. If a small amount is accidentally swallowed, there is no harm.
