MCT Energy contains medium-chain triglycerides as a calorie-reduced source of healthy fats with minimal fat storage potential. Their smaller size makes them up to 100 times more soluble than long-chain fatty acids. MCTs also take a metabolic shortcut directly to the liver for metabolism in approximately ⅛ the time as long chain fatty acids. MCTs do not require the amino acid–derived compound carnitine for transport to the mitochondria for energy production at the cellular level. Bile salts and pancreatic enzymes are also spared for their digestion.
The ease and speed of digestion for MCTs make them an excellent, dynamic energy source suitable for endurance athletes, those seeking to lose weight, patients with compromised appetites, and persons with malabsorption illnesses that include celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, and chronic liver disease.
